Week 6: The Beginning of Phase 3: Homemade Brief (05/11/2019)

After our presentations at the end of Phase 2, Adam informed us in the afternoon session what Phase 3 was about. From what he said, I made a homemade Phase 3 brief.

Firstly, I took down some physical notes on what Adam said and then wrote them up digitally to make the notes more concise and much easier to read.

For more context, please see my last post about introducing Phase 3.

The physical brief can be viewed in the yellow folder.

Underneath is that brief:

Where to Go Next - End of Week 5 - Week 9

November 1st - 29th

Start talking about your projects and reflecting where you are back to the class.

This is not the same as last year. You can now create a game that is passionate and says something about you to the world.

Now is the optimum time to experiment, test, explore, create and truly get immersed in all areas of your idea.

There should be no industry models.

End of Week 9 (Deadline) (29th November)

- You now have 4 weeks to come up with hundreds of game ideas to test

- These will all be whittled down to 3 vastly different, solid and viable options that will be presented back to the class

- Solid game foundations mean solid game ideas

You can now properly think about storytelling, game mechanics, playing other similar games, and identifying the key themes within your theme. Above everything, keep it simple at this stage. Don't over-complicate things with too much ambition.

Contingency

Think about your contingency plan and whether you want to start forming a team.

Remember that you don't have to.

Things are getting serious now.

What game do you want to create?

H/W

- Write the first iteration of your project proposal document.

Consider goals, user experience, Games London, EGX Rezzed.

Functional specifications - look back at your presentation for the beginning of year 2.

Look at card game systems, board games and perhaps management games.

List of character classes in purple folder.
