Official Mechanic #1: Muscle Cramping and Attempting to Attack Player

Research on Pg. 8 of black sketchbook, original writing on Pg. 24.

This is in response to the mechanic design questions set out in the introductory post in this catagory.

  1. Muscle is very malleable at times, especially when relaxed. When muscles get an involuntary contraction or over-shortening, the muscle cramps up. What is happening is the muscle is unable to relax properly due to myosin fibres not fully detaching from actin filaments. The muscle must be allowed to recover, (re-synthesise ATP) before the myosin fibres can detach and allow the muscle to relax. My plan is for the player to trigger a cramp by involuntarily activating the muscle, thus creating an involuntary contraction, caused by walking over it.

  2. This is impossible. The player must continue forward, and in doing so, will walk over the muscle and cramp it. I may include some areas that are more easily identifiable than others, thus bringing affordance, but some times it will be impossible to tell.

  3. The offended muscle will rise out of the 'ground' and start trying to wrap its way around the Spirit, thus suffocating it and ending the life of the player. Sometimes, it will create 'tentacles', and swipe at the Spirit, in all directions. The terrain will shift more and more under the Spirit's feet. The muscle will also try to crush the player, as the tentacles will start to swing violently at the Spirit. The player must jump backwards to avoid the tentacle swings. To settle the muscle down, the player is required to pull and stretch certain 'pressure points' to allow the muscle to relax and become dormant.

  4. Some will be obvious, and some won't. I would think that it is natural to move or jump back if one is being attacked.

Mechanics & Mechanic Design Specifications- 12/12/2018

In order to completely design the mechanics for my game, I was given a comprehensive table of questions to follow by my year leader. These questions allowed me to create fully-developed, water-tight m
