In order to completely design the mechanics for my game, I was given a comprehensive table of questions to follow by my year leader. These questions allowed me to create fully-developed, water-tight mechanics for my game, which I answered every time I needed to create a new mechanic:
Mechanic Design Table of Questions:
What triggers the mechanic (what conditions have to be met?)
If we don't trigger it as a player, what will happen?
If we do, what happens?
How do we indicate any of this to the player?
