Research into Existing Games Which Feature 'Bullet Hell' - 25/10/2018

All original writing and research can be located in Pg. 5 of the black sketchbook.

"Bullet Hell (called danmaku, meaning "barrage", in Japanese, literally "bullet curtain" when translated to English) shooters are a subgenre of Shoot Em Ups that test both your dodging skills and your resistance to seizures."

Why this (sub-)genre and not a choice-based game?

- I want to focus on making a game which will give people a 'thrill' in more of an adrenaline fashion.

Adrenaline ---> produced by the body - 'Dodge this'. (Reference to the famous Matrix quote)

Terms:

'True Final Boss' - A hidden boss in a video game that appears after or instead of the game's usual final boss battle, but only if certain conditions have been met.

- Paraphrased from https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TrueFinalBoss

Games that feature these usually contain Bullet Hell.

The following quotes have been taken from https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BulletHell, and are not my own. I am using them for research purposes.

"...feature extremely elaborate and beautiful patterns of bullet flows, especially for bosses, with hundreds and sometimes thousands of bullets on the screen at once."

"The player's hitbox is often very small, sometimes only one pixel."

" ...the majority of enemy bullets are sprayed wildly and are not actually aimed at the player."

"...the player is almost always given some variant of the Smart Bomb, which will remove bullets from the screen."

"Most modern bullet hell games give the player another way to avoid being killed..."
